This week we were at Oktoberfest, an event that was first celebrtated on the occasion of Prince Ludwig’s wedding ceremonies and later became a legendary traditon. Oktoberfest is celebrated over the couse of two weeks, covering the last week of September and the first week of October. The epicenter of festivities is Munich, located in the state of Bavaria of Germany. After the unification of Germany, the dates of the event were modified. If the first Sunday of October falls on the 1st or 2nd of the month, the festivites are extended until the 3rd such that the date of German unification is also covered by the event.

Traditional dresses, large and friendly crowds as well as excellent food and a wide variety of beers make this one of the most pleasant places on earth. While, upon first glance, the place may look like a n amusement park, the indoor areas within large tents provide the greatest entertainment . After a long wait spent in linet o get into a large tent, we finally find ourselves inside. Traditional Bavarian clothing and old fashioned wooden tables provide sufficient nostalgia to mistake this for a time machine that has taken us back to 1800s. After a while, the crowd lets loose and we understand the reason behınd the global excitement associated with Oktoberfest. Peopl dancing on tables and strangers who act as if they were long-tine friends made us feel at home. The energy was abundant and the tent provided us with a never ending source of enthusiasm . Naturally, there were drawbacks. Thinking of the enormous linet o get in, we felt hesitant to step outside and couldn’t eat for a long while; while we were previously complaining about drink prices, the price of food within the tents was even scarier, forcing us to leave the tent to hunt for something more affordable outside. It then took us several hours to geet back into the tent. Leaving aside the drawbacks, however, Oktoberfest was among the most entertaining places we have ever come across.

We are departing for home full of thoughts and expectaions of where our next transportation trip may take us. See you all in the next episode…
